Here’s a great video from 1982 featuring Leonardo Nimoy standing outside a movie theater, asking moviegoers who just saw it Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan if they think Spock is really dead at the end of the film.
As you’ll see, not all fans believed that Spock was really dead and would eventually return, which he did! Fans just couldn’t believe he could be gone forever.
Some even imagined that he would be “reborn” thanks to the life-giving powers of the Genesis planet, while others speculated that he would return in a later film.
As you know, Spock eventually returned Star Trek III: The Search for Spock thanks to Planet Genesis and the reunion of his soul with his body.
Enjoy the video!
Best thing you’ll see today: Leonard Nimoy, born on this day in 1931, outside a movie theater asking moviegoers who just saw Star Trek II if they think Spock is really dead at the end of the film. Happy Birthday, Captain! 🖖 #LLAP pic.twitter.com/FdeTO4OUqo
