Zendaya he was a star well before he became a member of the MCU, bursting onto the scene as a Disney Channel star in the series Shake it AND KC undercoverhaving also appeared in Beyoncé’s Lemonadeas well as becoming runner-up dancing with the Stars. But apparently none of these projects were at the forefront of Marvel producers Amy Pascal AND Kevin Feige’s checklists.
Pascal admitted in Vogue magazine as part of his cover story on Zendaya:
“To be honest, neither do you [Marvel Studios president] Neither Kevin Feige nor I knew who he was. She had no makeup on and was dressed like a normal girl, and we were like, “Oh my God, she’s amazing.” She has to be in the movie.” And then we found out that she was this totally famous person and we felt really stupid.
Feige and Pascal produced all three Zendaya films Spiderman films, two of which have grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office. The films put Zendaya in front Tom Holland in the title role. Since Zendaya was already a star before joining the MCU (even if Feige and Pascal had no idea), her additional fame from Marvel wasn’t too disruptive to her personal life. . The same wasn’t true for her co-star.
“We were both very, very young, but my career had already started and hers changed overnight,” Zendaya told Vogue. “One day you’re a kid and you’re in the pub with your friends, and the next day you’re Spider-Man. I definitely saw his life change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully.
Both actors are likely to return in a fourth Spiderman movie, although there’s no word on when that might happen as neither Sony nor Disney have officially announced it Spider-Man 4.
