In the last few years, The X-Files star of the franchise Gillian Anderson she seemed quite determined to reprise her role as Dana Scully again. But, apparently, when it comes Ryan Cooglernext reboot, she’s open to the idea.
The actress recently appeared on The Today show and when asked about the future of The X-Fileshe said, “It’s so funny because, for a lot of my life, since I finished The X-Files, in every interview I do, people have asked me and the answer has always been, “No.” Not gonna happen,.”
He then went on to say, “Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther, a brilliant, brilliant director, contacted Chris Carter to say he wants to make a version of it. I can’t think of a better way to do a reboot, I think he’s a bit of a genius.”
When asked if this means she’s willing to return, Anderson admitted: “There’s a chance that it could happen. Whether I’m involved in this thing is a whole other thing, but in his hands… But not I say no, because I think he’s really good, and I think if he did it, it’ll be incredibly well done, and maybe I’ll pop in for a little something.”
Speaking previously about the possibility of returning to the franchise, he said: “It seems like such an old idea. I’ve done it, I’ve done it for so many years, and it ended on such an unfortunate note.”
He added: “To even start having that conversation [about another season] there would need to be a whole new group of writers and the baton would have to be passed for it to feel new and progressive. So yes, it’s very much in the past.”
That’s exactly what’s happening with Coogler’s involvement, so it’s really great that Anderson is available to play Scully again. Hopefully Coogler contacts her to take advantage of the opportunity!
When he talks about his time on the show and comes to terms with not taking his time The X-Files for granted, she said: “There was a specific period of time when I couldn’t even hear about it. I was full of it.”
She continued: “And then – I don’t know how much time passed, whether a decade or less than a decade – I suddenly realized how incredibly lucky I had been, not just with his success, but with the fact that getting to play a character like Scully, and for so long. And not just a real, iconic character, but also the impact she had on young women in particular: women of all ages in so many different ways.”
Anderson went on to say, “[I was] really coming to terms with not taking it for granted, and how fortunate and rare that is. All of this started to affect me at some point. And I think for David too. And definitely to the point where we started thinking, ‘Go ahead, should we just do a couple more seasons just for the hell of it?’ – further celebrating this, or having the opportunity to further celebrate this and the characters, was great. You couldn’t ask for more than what those characters gave us.”
There are no details to share about Coogler’s X files series, but I’m curious to see what he’s cooking.
