Shakira says BARBIE “was emasculating” and that she likes pop culture “that empowers women without robbing men of their chance to be men”

Greta Gerwig’S Barbie the film received a lot of love from the audience and there are so many people who liked the film. But not everyone agreed, and it had its fair share of backlash. Well, that backlash continues Shakira.

During an interview with Allure magazine, the music icon was asked what she thought of the Barbie movie and she didn’t hold back, saying, “My kids absolutely hated it. They felt he was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent.”

She went on to explain, “I’m raising two boys. I want them to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it tries to empower women without taking away men’s ability to be men, to protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the confidence that we can do everything without losing our essence, without losing our femininity.”

The singer expanded on her thoughts by saying, “I think men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose too. We complement each other and this complement should not be lost.”

Shakira was then asked, “Just because a woman can do everything doesn’t mean she should?” To which she replied: “Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who must carry it too?”

Some of the other things people have said about it are from the podcaster Matt Walsh who claimed it is “the most aggressive feminist, anti-man propaganda fest ever committed to film.” Bill Maher he also criticized the film as “man-hating.”

Gerwig previously spoke about the negative reaction to the film, saying: “Certainly, there’s a lot of passion. My hope for the film is that it is an invitation for everyone to join the party and let go of the things that don’t necessarily serve us as women or men. I hope that all that passion, if they see it or engage with it, can give them some of the relief that it has given to other people.”
