Director Sam Raimi was recently asked about rumors that he is working on a new one Spiderman film with Tobey Maguire.
Raimi previously said he was “completely open” to directing Spider-Man 4 with Maguire returning as the web-slinger. Later, Thomas Haden Church he said he heard Raimi was going to make another movie and that he wanted in on the action. Since then, many rumors have emerged.
So what does Raimi say about these rumors? During an interview with CBR at WonderCon this past weekend, he said:
“Well, I haven’t heard of it yet. I’ve read it, but I’m not working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with the current Spider-Man [movies]and the track there, and I don’t know if they’ll come back to me and say, ‘Well, folks, we can tell that story too!’”
He continued, “I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I liked it Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really cool to see Tobey [Maguire] back into it.
That film certainly opened the door for Maguire’s Spider-Man to return for another film, but Raimi didn’t discuss it with him. He continued:
“I didn’t talk to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel did, or Columbia Pictures. But I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So I’m on very good terms with them. I’m sure I’d hear about it if it were in the works. I think so. I do not know.”
When previously asked if he would be open to making another Spider-Man film with Maguire, Raimi said:
“After making Doctor Strange, I came to understand that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think anything is possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I know if Marvel would be interested in this right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are on it. I haven’t pursued it yet. But it looks beautiful. Even if it was Not a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work on it again with Tobey, in a different role.”
I would definitely love to see Raimi and Maguire team up for Spider-Man 4! I hope Marvel and Sony are planning something because this is a movie Marvel and Spider-Man fans would be very excited to see! I’m more excited about this than seeing a fourth movie with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Would you like to see Raimi direct another Spider-Man movie? Do you think this is something that will ever happen?
