Noah Wyle stars in Max Medical drama THE PITT from ER writers John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill

Noah Wyle he has played some notable roles over the years, including Few good men AND Donnie Darkobut he will always be best known for playing Dr. John Carter in the hugely popular medical drama, ERfrom 1994 to 2009. Now he’s taking the lead role in another medical procedural at Max titled The Pitt.

Wyle will star in and executive produce the show’s 15-episode first season, which is described as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America today, seen through the lens of frontline heroes working in a modern hospital in Pittsburgh,” according to the official logline.

R. Scott Gemmill will serve as showrunner of the series, with John Wells executive production. The series reunites Wyle, Gemmill and Wells, as all three had previously worked together ER. Wells served as the show’s initial showrunner and executive producer, while Gemmill joined the show in its sixth season and worked his way up to executive producer. Gemmill most recently served as showrunner on the CBS drama NCIS: Los Angeles.

Television and Max for giving us this opportunity to return to the world of urban medicine,” Wyle, Wells and Gemmill said in a joint statement. “The myriad challenges facing doctors, nurses, technicians, patients and their families working in the trenches of modern medicine have become even more pronounced in the fifteen years since we last visited their stories. We are thrilled to return to this world with the support of our partners and look forward to pushing the boundaries of dramatic realism and medical accuracy as we follow the lives of these heroic men and women.”

Gemmill wrote the first episode of the series and is executive producer and showrunner. Wells serves as executive producer with Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions. In addition to Wyle, other executive producers include Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich. Warner Bros Television, with which John Wells Productions has an overall deal, will serve as the studio.
