Emmy winning actors Kerry Washington (Django Unchained, Scandal) AND Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) have signed on to star in the Apple TV+ limited series adaptation of Imperfect womenbased on Araminta Hall novel of the same name. Annie Weismann (Physicist) will adapt the book for the screen.
Imperfect women is described as an “unconventional psychological thriller that examines a crime that destroys the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women. Imperfect women is a perspective-complicated mystery that explores guilt and punishment, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that irrevocably alter our lives. As the investigation unfolds, so too does the truth about how even the closest relationships can change over time.”
Weisman will executive produce the series in addition to writing it. Moss is executive producing alongside Lindsey McManus via Love & Squalor Pictures, which initially optioned the book. Washington and Pilar Savone are executive producers of Simpson Street. Hall will also serve as executive producer. The series is produced by 20th Television and Apple Studios.
Moss said of the project:
“From the moment I received Araminta’s novel, I couldn’t put it down. It was such a thrilling read; I fell in love with it immediately. I have admired Kerry and her work as an actress and producer for many years and was looking for something to work on with her and was so thrilled that she responded to the material when we sent it to her and Pilar at Simpson Street. They were the first and only people we thought of. We’re so happy that Apple and 20th Television agreed to work with us on this too. It’s all an absolute match made in heaven.”
Washington added:
“I couldn’t have been more thrilled to receive this call from Elisabeth. I’ve been a huge fan of her for years, both as a brilliant actor and a groundbreaking producer. Elisabeth and Lindsey have impeccable taste, as evidenced by the way they championed Araminta’s compelling novel, and I can think of no better person to bring this project to life on screen than the extraordinary Annie Weisman. “Imperfect Women” is exactly the kind of emotional, complex, and raw storytelling we strive to create at Simpson Street. Pilar and I are extremely inspired by the opportunity to collaborate with Love & Squalor Pictures and are grateful to everyone at Apple Studios and the team at 20th Television for believing in this project as much as we do.”
This sounds like a fantastic project for these leading ladies. I can’t wait to check it out!
