SNAKE EYES Star Henry Golding Teases ‘Big, Big Plans’ for GI JOE Film Franchise

We have no idea what the hell is going on with the GI Joe franchise from Paramount Pictures. After the producers forced a ridiculous and unnecessary crossover Transformers: Rise of the BeastI was hoping nothing would come of it because it’s such a stupid direction for the franchise to take when they probably haven’t figured out how to handle it yet.

Now, the star of Snake Eyes Henry Golding has offered an update and seems pretty confident about the studios’ future plans, even though his film Snake Eyes didn’t do very well at the box office. Golding says the studio has “big plans” for the franchise:

“I mean, Lorenzo di Bonaventura is a busy man and a phenomenal producer, and he’s in good hands. Whatever happens, I think it’s going to be a combination of what’s happened and what’s to come. I think Paramount has something great , big plans.”

Well, I don’t know what fantasy world Golding lives in, but… GI Joe it is definitely not in “safe hands”. The franchise needs a completely new producer and creative team because Lorenzo di Bonaventura continues to prove that he is not the right person for the job. I mean, she previously admitted that she didn’t even know what they were doing with the franchise.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura was asked about the future of the franchise and he responded by saying, “The truth is, I don’t know. I know that we will keep the promise we made.” This is a promise I hope they never keep, because whatever they do will be another disappointment.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Cape Jr. he previously spoke about the crossover, saying, “Yeah, it was about finding a way to use GI Joe technology because they’re known for their technology. I was like, ‘Maybe we don’t have to go through the classic characters like Snake Eyes and Duke and all these other characters. Maybe there’s a way we can use other characters that haven’t been used as much.'”

He continued: “There are different series and editions and even different factions of GI Joe. There is GI Joe: Renegades and several branches of it as well. So I started playing with it and proposed versions to the studio and producers. I proposed a direction I wanted to go and ways to branch the universe at large. The Transformers movies have scope and scale, but we’ve spent a lot of time here on Earth, so I think there’s more out there. Even in the Transformers graphic novels there are other planets and things like that, and I was like, “We’re just thinking too small.” So if we’re going to do movies number eight, nine and ten, maybe there’s a way to make it bigger and more branched.”

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but I’m not thrilled about the future of the franchise.
