This week’s retro trailer gives us a look at what superhero movies were like in the 1940s. This is the trailer for the classic 1941 film The Adventures of Captain Marvel.
This film marks the first time a comic book superhero has come to life on the big screen. Directed by John English AND William Wittneythe film follows the daring exploits of Captain Marvel, a superhero gifted with incredible powers by the ancient wizard Shazam.
The story sees Captain Marvel, also known as Billy Batson, battle the sinister Scorpion and his nefarious plans to obtain the powerful Golden Scorpion artifact. As Billy faces the challenges of dual identity and the responsibilities that come with wielding immense power, and like all superhero films made these days, this one explores the importance of using one’s abilities for the greater good.
It’s fun to take a look back at comic book movies from the distant past.
