Prime Video is coming Fall is set in the same universe as the video games, but will tell a completely original story. I always liked that this series wasn’t a direct adaptation of the games, but there’s a reason the creative team decided to go in that direction.
Bethesda’s Todd Howardthe games director, was involved in the production of the Fall TV series, and was very involved in the development of the show. In fact, there was a rule that the creators of the series had to follow and that rule led them to create an original story.
During an interview with SFX magazine, co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet revealed that Howard did not want the series to contradict any of the game’s main endings. So, the show is set years and, in some cases, decades after the events of the games. The creative team was trying to break new ground in this universe.
Producer Lisa Joy spoke about wanting to tell an original story rather than adapting one from the games, saying, “We felt that would be the best thing to honor the player’s experiences, and the most truthful.”
He added: “If we had adapted a specific game, it wouldn’t have been truthful because it’s an open world game and everyone’s experience is different. So if we had taken any of the configurations of any of the games and done it’ directly’ , many players would say, ‘That’s not the order I played in.'”
Fall it is the story of “the haves and the have-nots” in a world where there is almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the kind inhabitants of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind – and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully strange and highly violent universe awaiting them ”.
The world of Fall it is “one in which the future imagined by Americans in the late 1940s explodes in on itself through nuclear war in 2077. In Fallout, the harshness of the wasteland is contrasted with the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through ‘nuclear energy. It’s serious in tone, but sprinkled with moments of wry humor and B-movie nuclear fantasies.
As for the series, it is set in the future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and will tell an original story based on Fall games and this new story will be part of the games canon.
The series comes from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan AND Lisa Joyand becomes the protagonist Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins and more.
Fall will arrive on Prime Video on April 12, 2024.
