AMC has acquired exclusive US linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the TNT series Snowpiercer. The post-apocalyptic drama was canceled by TNT with the announcement that the fourth season would be the last. Subsequently, TNT’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, decided not to air the fourth season altogether as a way to cut costs.
But, thanks to AMC, fans of the series will be able to watch season 4! The first three seasons of Snowpiercer will be available to stream on AMC+ later this year, while Season 4 will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
Ben Davisexecutive vice president of original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios, said in a statement: “Snowpiercer is a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat with a loyal fan base – similar to the passionate fandoms we serve in our biggest franchise series – and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+. We can’t wait to give viewers the opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year, in anticipation of an extraordinary fourth season directed by Paul Zbyszewski and this stellar cast, which will premiere in 2025″.
Showrunner Paul Zbyszewski added, “We’re so excited that the train has finally found a home, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone at AMC and Tomorrow Studios for giving fans Snowpiercer an opportunity to enjoy season four with all the hard work this amazing cast and crew have put into it.”
Snowpiercer is based on the 2013 film of the same name, which was itself based on a graphic novel by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette.
The story is set “more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival come to the fore in this gripping television adaptation based on the film and graphic novel series of the same name.
In season two, “Mr. Wilford, the creator of Snowpiercer, emerges in season two, ready to take back his stolen train, sparking a new power struggle. This causes a dangerous rift as the passengers are torn between their loyalties to the revolutionary Layton and to Mr. Wilford, who has a new train, new technology, and a game plan that leaves everyone perplexed. As Layton battles Wilford for Snowpiercer’s soul, Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) leads the charge toward a shocking new discovery that could change the fate of humanity.
In Season 3: “At the end of Season 2 of Snowpiercer, Layton and Ruth, who had been banished to Big Alice’s compost car, plotted to take Snowpiercer back. With the help of Javier (Roberto Urbina) and Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard), Layton and Ruth returned to Snowpiercer and reunited with their supporters. Josie destroyed the Aquarius car, separating Snowpiercer’s head from the remaining 1,023 cars. Season three picks up with Layton (Diggs) and his inner circle in command of a small 10-car “pirate train” in search of Melanie and a possible hot spot to restart civilization; while on Snowpiercer, Mr. Wilford is consolidating power, awaiting Layton’s return.
