Michael Keaton still doesn’t understand what the MORBIUS post-credits scene was supposed to mean

Sony has made some bad Marvel movies over the years, but one of the worst was the 2022 film Morbiusin which Jared Leto he played biochemist Michael Morbius, who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but inadvertently becomes infected with a form of vampirism. The script was terrible and the story was half-baked, resulting in yet another terrible film in Sony’s roster. But one of the most talked about scenes in the garbage heap of a movie was the post-credits scene Michael Keaton.

He appeared twice, first seemingly transported into Sony’s Spider-Verse for no reason, then in the final post-credits scene where we saw Morbius driving out of town to meet Keaton’s character, Adrian Toomes/Vulture, who he comes flying in wearing his Vulture costume Spider-Man: Homecoming and decide that maybe it would be a good idea for them to team up.

No one understood why he was brought into the film, and apparently even Keaton was completely confused by the appearance. In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Keaton was asked how much he knew or understood what he was doing in Morbius. He replied:

“NO. No idea. None. Zero. And they couldn’t quite explain it either.

He continued:

“[Morbius director Daniel Espinosa] he said ‘Let me tell you’ and I said ‘Okay, I really don’t know what you’re talking about or even who some of these people are.’ But it was tricky because obviously they looked down the road and said, “This is how this is going to work.” This is what’s going to happen here.” And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m in.'”

It’s a shame that they brought in this interesting character in the hopes that something would come of it. At Sony they never had a clear plan on how to make their cinematic universe the way Marvel did. So it’s no wonder that Michael Keaton didn’t know what was going on in that movie, it seems like no one did!
