Godzilla minus one was an incredible box office success in theaters and fans flocked to theaters to watch it. That theatrical run is over, and now Toho is teasing the film’s upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release.
The home video shown below will be made available to Japanese consumers, but I think it’s safe to say that the US will get something very similar.
The film will be released in both color and black and white versions. The domestic release of Godzilla minus one will hit shelves in Japan on May 1st. There’s no word on when the film will hit home video in the United States.
The film was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, and the story is set in the days following the end of World War II, when Japan is recovering from the devastation left behind by the war. The emotional toll has brought the country to its lowest point.
The story follows failed kamikaze pilot Kiochi (Ryunosuke Kamiki) and Noriko (Minami Hamabe), a woman forced to become homeless, taking care of an abandoned child. During this low point Godzilla marches towards shore, dragging Japan even deeper into chaos and devastation.
