HBO renews TRUE DETECTIVE for a fifth season with the return of the creator of NIGHT COUNTRY

HBO has renewed itself True detective for the fifth season. The news comes shortly after the season finale of True Detective: Night Countryand that season’s creator, Issa López, will return to direct season five thanks to her new overall deal with HBO.

Given this, the renewal should come as no surprise Night country was a huge hit for HBO. It was the most watched episode of the show to date, which is crazy to me because even though I enjoyed this season, I didn’t think it was the best of the series.

One of the things that I think helped was how this latest season tied into the first season of the series, which even some fans didn’t think was done right. Also the creator of the show Nic Pizzolatto, who was not creatively involved with the show, made it clear that he was unhappy with the direction of the new season. Independently, Night country was a huge success and HBO wants more!

Lopez said in a statement: “From conception to release, ‘Night Country’ has been the greatest collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life. HBO completely trusted my vision and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of ‘True Detective’ with Casey, Francesca and the entire team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to go back.”

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and movies, added: “Issa Lopez is that rare and unique talent who speaks directly to the creative spirit of HBO. She directed “True Detective: Night Country” from start to finish, never wavering from her laudable vision and inspiring us with her resilience both on the page and behind the camera. In addition to Jodie and Kali’s flawless performances, she has made this installation of the franchise a huge success, we are so lucky to have her as part of our family.

In Night country,” Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodi Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) investigate the disappearance of eight men working at a remote Arctic research station in Alaska. They soon discover that the events at the station may be connected to one of their old cases, dragging them both on a dark and unexpected journey.

The season was also a protagonist Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlancAND John Hawkes. At the moment, no actors are attached to the fifth season and I imagine, like all the other seasons, the next one will contain a completely new set of actors.

Did you like Night Country and are you excited to hear we’re getting a fifth season?
