Robert Downey Jr. met with Christopher Nolan about playing the Scarecrow in BATMAN BEGINS

Much earlier Oppenheimer has arrived, director Christopher Nolan considered Robert Downey Junior. for another role in his DC movie Batman begins. The actor recently revealed that he met with the director to play the role of the villain Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow before Cilian Murphy he was ultimately chosen.

In a video posted on X, the actor talks about the experience of meeting Nolan for the film and how he knew it wouldn’t amount to anything. He explained:

“And I remember meeting him for tea and thinking, ‘He doesn’t seem like he’s really leaning into this interview.’ He was polite and all that, but you see that when someone is kind of like… he’s not going anywhere.”

Even if it didn’t go anywhere Batman beginsthings finally changed years later, when Nolan cast him as Oppenheimer, which earned Downey Jr. an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Cillian Murphy was perfect for the role of the Scarecrow Batman begins, but it would have been interesting to see how Downey Jr. would have brought the character to life. It’s kind of strange that he was considered for this DC villain at one point. The whole thing would have gone very differently, but he would have enjoyed it.
