Sam Rockwell he hopes to reprise his role as Justin Hammer in the MCU in Marvel Armor wars. The actor recently appeared in Tonight’s show with Jimmy Fallonand when asked if there was any truth to online rumors suggesting his MCU character might return for the film, he said:
“I’m waiting for the phone call. I didn’t receive the phone call. Listen, I’m in, man. Let’s go.”
Rockwell was said to be in talks to join the film a month ago. And if he’s really in the movie, he won’t reveal it until Marvel reveals it.
He has said in the past that he would be open to playing Hammer again, and returned for the role in an episode of What if…? Season 2, where he played a variant of the villain who invaded Avengers Tower on Christmas Eve and jumped into the Hulkbuster armor to fight Happy “The Freak” Hogan.
When asked if he would like to be part of a project like Lightninghe replied, “Yes, definitely. I would love to. [Thunderbolts] Sounds cool…[Hammer’s] funny, he’s a real Lex Luthor.”
It makes sense to see Rockwell return Armor warsAlthough. Don Cheadle teased how his character will be explored in the Marvel film, explaining that for the first time we’ll see what makes Rhodey tick. He said:
“The fun part is that we’re going to continue to explore Rhodey and, in a way for the first time, see what makes him tick. We understand his physical challenges, but we haven’t gotten into a lot of his emotional and psychological side yet. [challenges].”
Armor wars it was originally conceived as a series, but was reworked as a film because the studio was committed to “telling the story the right way and in that process realized a feature was a better fit for the project”.
Marvel Producer Nate Moore (Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) previously explained why Armor wars is the kind of project that needs to be a movie instead of a series, saying, “When you’re talking about a show that wants to see all the cool suits of armor and Don Cheadle interact with all these suits of armor and, in a way, Tony’s legacy Stark? It’s become cost prohibitive to put on a show.”
I’m curious to see how this movie ends, but do you think Rockwell will return as Justin Hammer?
