Christopher Nolan loves all types of films, both low-budget independent films and large, epic-scale projects. Nolan started out making small independent films like I rememberbut over the years he has managed to put together the resources to make any kind of film he wants and they are mostly big budget blockbusters.
The director will never go back to making those small films because he wants to exploit the resources he has now. Why go back? He recently explained in an interview with Time magazine that he has a responsibility to use what he has built. He said:
“I am attracted to large-scale work because I know how fragile the opportunity to mobilize such resources is. I know there are so many filmmakers out there in the world who would give their all to have the resources I’ve put together, and I feel I have a responsibility to use them in the most productive and interesting way.
That’s exactly what he’s doing. Nolan is making some incredible films and experimenting with interesting, interesting and original ideas. I hope it continues in that direction because Hollywood lacks originality these days and Nolan can do pretty much whatever he wants, which is rare for any director, even established ones.
His recent film, Oppenheimer, was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. I don’t think it’s Nolan’s best film, but it’s a great film that will most likely win a lot of awards.
