Toho’s Godzilla minus one returned to U.S. theaters with its brand new black-and-white version that fans thoroughly enjoyed, and the film surpassed $55 million in total at the U.S. box office, becoming the third-highest-grossing foreign-language film in history of the United States!
Godzilla minus one it surpassed the films Hero ($53.7 million) and Parasite ($53.3) to take third place. The critically acclaimed film’s worldwide total currently stands at $102.6 million. The two international films preceding Godzilla Minus One at the American box office are:
#1 – Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon – $128.5 million (US)
#2 – Life is Good – $57.5 Million (US)
There is still a chance that this will happen Godzilla minus one could take second place as they are only $2.5 million away from overtaking it Life is Beautiful. But the film only has a few days left in theaters, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Toho’s Godzilla minus one was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, and sees an already devastated post-World War II Japan take on Godzilla as he wreaks further havoc and destruction. I’m excited to see how the story will continue with the sequel, which will eventually be made.
