Clip from GODZILLA MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR clip with atomic devastation

The black and white version of Godzilla minus one is currently in theaters and will end its theatrical run on February 1st. If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s still time! To give you a little taste of what the film has to offer, here’s a clip released by Toho Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color showing Godzilla’s horrific atomic breath in action!

Takashi Yamazakidirector, screenwriter and visual effects supervisor, said in a statement: “I was very happy that North American audiences enthusiastically welcomed Godzilla minus oneand now I’m very happy to be able to release a black and white version for North America too. Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color will bring a new and visceral experience to audiences.”

The director worked extensively on this remaster as a cut-for-cut production instead of making it monochrome for its own sake. The director previously said:

“We are now able to announce Godzilla-1.0/C, which we have been working on for a long time. Rather than making it monochrome, it’s cut for cut, I had them make changes taking full advantage of the various mattes, as if they were creating a new film What I was aiming for was a style that seemed taken from the masters of monochrome photography. We managed to bring out the skin texture and scenery details hidden in the photographed data. Then a scary Godzilla appeared, just like the one in the documentary. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear in the theater.”

The film is set in Japan 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan was reduced to nothing. Godzilla appears and throws the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how – and with whom – will Japan resist?”
