Daredevil: Born Again star Vincenzo D’Onofrio recently addressed rumors of his possible return as Kingpin Spider-Man 4. The actor also shared his thoughts on Kingpin’s possible appearance Avengers: Secret Wars. Kingpin could have a long life in the MCU, there are many cool and interesting directions they could take the character.
One of the great voices on the matter Spider-Man 4 is that it could see Spider-Man team up with Daredevil to take on Kingpin. That would be a really great movie! When asked about that rumor during an interview with CB, D’Onofrio responded carefully, saying:
“I think if the powers that be want this to happen, then it will happen, you know? I think there certainly hasn’t been any kind of talk that it won’t happen. I mean, to me that’s the direction we should be going in. ..but who knows? You know, you get these calls and they’re like, ‘Oh, we’re doing this now.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ You know, that’s it.”
It seems like a logical direction to take, but who knows what Marvel is trying to do!? It’s hard to say at this point and we’ll just have to wait and see how the story turns out Daredevil: Born Again play. D’Onofrio was then asked if he would appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, and his response was:
“I don’t see why he has to be in just one situation. Part of Echo’s narrative is that his reach has gone beyond that. He’s gone from just controlling Hell’s Kitchen and certain things that come through the ports of Manhattan, to the veins of his business being spreading across the country and I think eventually around the world.
“So I think it’s present everywhere. I think that’s the way I see it. I see Vanessa and him as pretty powerful, and so I think I really mean everywhere. I love the fact that [Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum compared Kingpin to Thanos], anyway, because I didn’t know he said that until you told me and that means there’s a lot of work coming. That’s a good thing.”
In the Secret Wars comic, Kingpin gathers a group of Marvel villains to witness the destruction of the Marvel Universe in the Nameless Bar.
I would love to see more Kingpin in the MCU, I would love to see an epic story arc for him. He’s always been an interesting villain, so I’m happy to see that Marvel Studios is still playing with him. I just hope we see his story continue to grow. I really just want to see Spider-Man and Daredevil team up to try and take him down.
