Greg Nicotero is preparing to develop the TV series adaptation of the post-apocalyptic horror novel SWAN SONG

Walking Dead AND Disturbing show executive producer of the series Greg Nicotero has come on board a new action/genre series project to undertake. Will develop an adaptation of Robert McCammon’s best-selling post-apocalyptic horror novel, The swan song.

In The swan song, “Following the U.S. government’s nuclear showdown with an unprecedented malevolent enemy, America as it was is gone forever. Now the remaining citizens must fight to survive in a wasteland born of anger and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies.

Nicotero will executive produce the series and will also direct the pilot episode. He said in a statement: “As a longtime fan of Robert’s novels, his story of survival in a world forever changed by political distrust and international intrigue laced with supernatural force has always been one of my favorites. The moment is perfect to enter this world.”

Producers Steve Barnett, Alan Powell AND Vicky Patel added: “The post-apocalyptic world of McCammon’s novel is incredibly compelling and unlike anything we’ve seen before on film or television. We’re very excited to bring this world to life and can’t imagine better partners than Greg and Brian on the series, especially with Greg’s years of experience expanding the world of walkers on The Walking Dead.

Swan Song won the Bram Stoker Award in 1987, tied with Stephen King’s Misery. Here is the description from the book:

In a wasteland born of anger and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, Earth’s last survivors have been drawn into a final battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of humanity. There’s Sister, who discovers a strange transformative glass artifact in the shattered streets of Manhattan… Joshua Hutchins, the professional wrestler who takes refuge from nuclear fallout in a Nebraska gas station… and Swan, a gifted young girl of special powers, who travels alongside Josh to a Missouri town where healing and recovery can begin with his gifts. But the ancient force behind the land’s devastation is scouring the walking wounded for recruits for its relentless army… starting with Swan herself.

It should be a great show! It seems that Nicotero is the perfect person to take on a project like this.
