Trailer for the documentary film I AM “GEORGE LUCAS”: A CONNOR RATLIFF STORY

This is the trailer for a new documentary film titled I Am “George Lucas”: A Story by Connor Ratliff will premiere at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival. I’m not very familiar with the subject of the documentary, comedian Connor Ratliff, but he has spent the last five years playing famed director George Lucas in the cult New York comedy “The George Lucas Talk show”.

The synopsis reads: “For five years, comedian Connor Ratliff played director George Lucas on his cult monthly UCB NY comedy show, ‘The George Lucas Talk Show.’ Co-hosted by the actor Griffin Newmann and with A-list guests booked by the producer Patrick Cotnoir, the show allows Connor to exalt and poke fun at Lucas’ vast world, including Star Wars. However, Connor begins to question whether the show should continue due to his continued stress with little financial and career gains. Following live performances and behind the scenes for a year, the mysteries of Connor’s inner self are explored in this portrait of an artist and his feelings about his history, value and legacy are revealed.

The film was directed by Ryan Jacobiwho said, “Seeing that creator/host Connor Ratliff had done the same deep, nerdy dive and knew all the intricate details of George Lucas’ life, while not taking anything too seriously, immediately connected me to this artist. . I learned so much through Connor about the value of playing for the sake of playing, about being present in the moment and not judging my creativity, that depth can be found even in silly things.”

I thought this document might be of interest to some of you, so check out the trailer below and let us know what you think! The film will premiere at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival this month in the Documentary Competition section.
