Lucasfilm’s Rey Skywalker STAR WARS movie may not be delayed after all

This was reported earlier this week Margaret RidleyThe Rey Skywalker film, entitled Star Wars: New Jedi Order he had problems and that screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) hasn’t had a chance to write the screenplay yet, which would delay the making of the film.

The news came from a respectable person Star Wars news site Making Star Wars. Well, now io9 reports that those rumors are not true. They say Lucasfilm told them that “the report is not accurate and Knight continues to write and be part of the process. In fact, as you read this, the company is waiting for its latest draft.

There was also a rumor that we didn’t report that Lucasfilm had creative differences with Knight. Regardless of what’s going on, one thing we know for sure from both sources is that Lucasfilm has yet to have a script for the film, and when that script eventually arrives, that script will have to be greenlit.

Remember, Damon Lindelof AND Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy they were initially hired to write a screenplay for the film, which they did, but Lucasfilm didn’t like the direction they were taking the story and the studios ended up firing them from the project. So even when Knight finishes his script, there’s no guarantee it will be what Lucasfilm is looking for. But, hopefully, that’s because it would be nice to see Lucasfilm actually put a new film project into production.

I also like Knight’s work, so I was curious to see what he would bring to the table Star Wars franchising. This was reported last week Jon Favreau was developing The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, and that will be the next Star Wars movie released on the big screen.

Last year, speaking about the state of the film, he confirmed that he had not yet read the script: “I know the plot of a film. That’s not to say it’s everything, but that’s what I’ve been told.” regard. And I guess that will be the next movie, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, after the strikes and everything, how quickly this will all start again. But yes, for now, I know the story of a film and I think people will be very excited.”

The film is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoywho previously directed episodes of the 2022 Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Now we just have to wait and see if this Star Wars movie will get made or if it will fall apart like all the others. Lucasfilm really needs to get its act together in terms of making these movies.
