Chad Stahelski will oversee creative on the JOHN WICK and HIGHLANDER franchises at Lionsgate

Director and John Wick franchise creator Chad Stahelski he dreamed his own Highlanders rebooted for years, and in recent months it’s finally gained some traction, with Stahelski confirming that it’s slowly but surely moving forward. This week, Lionsgate inked a deal with the director, leaving him to oversee creative decisions on both the future of the Highlanders franchising, as well as the John Wick franchise, which is still churning out projects, such as the next spin-off film, Dancer.

Stahelski will have oversight of brands across film, television and all media platforms. A press release regarding the deal reads: “The director and his team at 87Eleven Entertainment have taken the lead in designing a comprehensive multiplatform content strategy for both franchises.”

Stahelski will work alongside the franchise’s producers: Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road on the Wick franchise and Neal H. Moritz and the legacy of the late Peter S. Davis on Highlanders.

Joe Drake, outgoing president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Adam Fogelson, president of MPG, said:

“This deal expands the great creative relationship we already have in place with John Wick and extends it to our Highlander franchise. From the beginning, Chad has been the creative force that has defined the world of Wick; As we continue to think about the future of that world, we want Chad, working alongside Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, as our stewards to guide us and strategize together every step of the way. This deal makes it official and we look forward to his steady hand and creative input not only on the film he is making, but also on the other stories that will come from it. He is a true visionary and we are thrilled to have him on our side.”

Stahelski said of the new concert:

“I am pleased to be able to grow my relationship with Lionsgate in this new oversight role for the John Wick universe and its further expansion. John Wick is so close to my heart and to be able to continue to drive it will be amazing for me. I’m so happy to also launch another franchise with Highlander, a world so rich with compelling stories to tell.”
