The Amanda Knox True Crime limited series is in the works on Hulu

Hulu is close to a deal to make a limited series with an incredible true crime story Amanda Knoxwho will executive produce the project herself, alongside Monica Lewinsky and Emmy-winning producer Warren Littlefield (Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale).

Written and executive produced by KJ Steinberg (this is us), the untitled limited series is based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to free herself, which led to the wrongful conviction of the author and activist and its consequences. .

The Amanda Knox series had been in priority development at Hulu for a while. Lewinsky, also known for her activism, teased this in an October appearance on Today about a PSA campaign about self-bullying, where she said:

“I wish it was announced already, but I’m executive producing a limited series about another young woman who found her life decimated and torn apart on the world stage, but somehow managed to survive. I think it’s going to be really powerful .

Lewinsky also took control of the narrative of a story that brought her fame in her 20s — her affair with President Bill Clinton — by working as a producer on Ryan Murphy’s FX limited series. Impeachment: American Crime Storywhose streaming home is Hulu.

Knox spent nearly four years in prison in Italy for the murder of Kercher, an exchange student with whom she shared an apartment in Perugia, in 2007, before being acquitted. She wrote about her experience in her 2013 memoir Waiting to be Heard, and also appeared in the 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox. The case was previously dramatized in the Lifetime film Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy.
