Last year, Lucasfilm announced that we were getting a new one Star Wars films to focus on Margaret RidleyIt’s Rey Skywalker. The film is titled Star Wars: New Jedi Orderand was supposed to be the next Star Wars film to be made and released.
Well, that’s no longer the case. This was reported earlier this week Jon Favreau was developing The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, and that will be the next Star Wars movie released on the big screen.
So what’s going on with Star Wars: New Jedi Order? Why is he expelled? According to Making Star Wars, writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) hasn’t had a chance to write the screenplay yet. Last we heard, the script was supposed to be finished in November, but that may not be the case.
The report says: “Today I was told this [Steven] Knight didn’t write it [his draft], it shouldn’t get there. The programming and the stars were not aligned. Steven Knight was simply the person they had chosen and could find at that moment [following Damon Lindelof’s exit] and it never aligned. I’m not saying he’s out of it, I’m not saying he’s going to write it or not write it, I don’t know.”
She also said: “I’m very excited. The story is really good. I’m waiting to read the script because obviously I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”
Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy were initially hired to write the script, but Lucasfilm obviously didn’t like the direction they were taking the story. But they would have had a script, because they actually wrote one!
Last year Ridley had already been asked about the status of the film and she confirmed that she had not yet read the script: “I know the plot of a film. That’s not to say that’s all, but that’s what I know. said. And I guess that’ll be the next movie, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, after the strikes and everything, how quickly it’s all going to start up again. But yeah, for now, I know the story of a movie and I think people will be very excited.”
The film is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoywho previously directed episodes of the 2022 Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Now we just have to wait and see if this Star Wars movie will get made or if it will fall apart like all the others. Lucasfilm really needs to get its act together in terms of making these movies.
