Dean DeBloiswho co-wrote and directed the original and revered trilogy, is helming the new feature, returning as writer, director and producer.
Using the books of Cressida Cowell as a starting point, How to train your dragon centered on the special friendship between a young and unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup and Toothless, a wounded dragon who he nurses back to health. The films chronicled Hiccup and Toothless’ quest to combat humanity’s prejudices against dragons, the pain of overcoming the loss of a parent, and first love.
Universal has set a June 13, 2025 release date for the feature.
