An American trailer has been released for an upcoming fantasy epic film titled This is Conannand is said to be a retelling of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian.
The film’s synopsis reads: “In a barbaric sci-fi fantasy journey through time, the mythology of sword and sorcery is bent, fractured and gender-swapped by master visionary Bertrand Mandico in his third feature-length epic. Six lives, six eras and six deaths mark Conann’s poetic journey through different incarnations and lesbian loves.
Guiding Conann through his many epic lives is “Elina Löwensohn as Rainer, a multi-dimensional, otherworldly Cerberus whose paparazzi camera sees everything. The perversity of ‘The Wild Boys’ and the hero’s journey of ‘After Blue (Dirty Paradise)’ come together in this even greater hand-crafted homage as Mandico delves into lush influences like ‘Fellini Satyricon,’ ‘The Night Porter’, ‘The Hunger’, and Fassbinder’s entire oeuvre to create a moving portrait of a warrior trying to find her place while out of space, time and meaning.
In addition to Löwensohn like Rainer e Julia Riedler as Sanja, interpreting the many facets of Conann Claire Duburcq (After Blue), Christa Theret (Renoir), Sandra Parfait (Lupine), Nathalie Riccardo (After love), AND Françoise Brion (The Immortelle).
The film is an official selection of the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes, the Fantastic Fest and Sitges. This is Conann will be released in select theaters on February 2, 2024, premiering at select Alamo Drafthouse locations and at the Anthology Film Archive in New York City. Other screening locations include Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver and more.
