A recent trailer for the Marvel series Echo was released and featured footage from Netflix’s Daredevil series as a way to set up the events of the story for Echo. I thought it was interesting because the Daredevil series wasn’t really considered canon. There was a lot of distance between those Netflix shows and what was happening in the MCU.
Well, Marvel Studios executive producer Brad Winderbaum believes that the original Daredevil series is 100% part of the MCU timeline. During a recent interview with Screen Rant, he said:
“I can say that up to this point we’ve been a little cautious about what Sacred Timeline is and what it isn’t. This all came out of, frankly, a period in the studio where we were like, ‘We need to stay the landing with the vendors .’ It was another part of the company that developed Netflix material.
“We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was still a lot to balance. But now that a little bit of time has passed, now that we see how well integrated the stories are, I think I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying that it is part of the Sacred Timeline.”
I mean, it makes perfect sense that those Netflix shows are part of the MCU. The fact that Marvel attempted to distance themselves from them is pretty ridiculous. It’s nice to see that some executives over there are embracing those shows’ place in the MCU.
Both Charlie Cox AND Vincenzo D’Onofrio they’ve reprized their roles on several occasions, and while Marvel has been vague about some aspects of their characters as far as timelines go, they’re both basically the same characters from Netflix’s Marvel shows.
Daredevil and Kingpin will have a role in the Echo series and will return for Daredevil: Born Again, which is in the midst of a major creative overhaul. D’Onofrio said of the series: “You guys have no idea what you’re in for [Daredevil: Born Again]. I know a little more than you guys and all I can say is, during the next series, you won’t be thinking about anything but the next episode. I promise.”
