Margot Robbie she was a fantastic actress to play the role of Harley Quinn. Regardless of the material she had to work with, it was a lot of fun to watch play this iconic DC character. The big question is: will we see her play Quinn again one day?
James Gunn He was recently asked about his plans for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and explained that while he’d love to work with her again, there are no plans in place at the moment. He said:
“I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley in a long time. But I would love to work with her again as Harley or someone else. There are no plans right now for anyone else to play Harley (I mean, anyone other than in the movie Todd or animated shows.)”
Robbie has been pushing for a Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy movie for years, and she and Gunn have discussed ideas in the past. In a previous interview, the actress had explained that she was ready to return to the role of Harley Quinn again, saying:
“I’ve had enough of a break. I’m ready to do it again. I did Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad back to back, so there was a lot of Harley in one year, but that was a while ago. I’m always ready for more Harleys!”
Since then, however, her tone has changed and now it seems that she is ready to abandon the character and pass it on to another actress. During an interview with Forbes, Robbie said:
“I’ve always wanted Harley to be a character that would be passed on to other actresses to play, just like there are so many iconic male characters. That’s always been her dream.”
This makes sense to me. I think it’s okay for other actresses to take on the role of Harley Quinn! But I’d still love to see Robbie back in a big Harley Quinn movie. Robbie continued:
“Harley is so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”
The next actress to play Harley Quinn will be Lady Gaga, but the Joker films are outside of the DCU that Gunn and Peter Safran are building. When it comes to Harley Quinn in the DCU, there’s no doubt that we’ll see her, we just don’t know who exactly will be playing her.
