Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series, which highlights the year’s most talked about screenplays, continues NapoleonDavid Scarpa’s screenplay, which forms the basis for Ridley Scott’s historical epic starring Joaquin Phoenix.
The script chronicles the rise and fall of the legendary French emperor and provides the framework around which Scott builds his signature plot, this time highlighted by massive and dynamic (and practical) battle sequences depicting the battles of Austerlitz, Toulon and Waterloo.
At the heart of the story is Napoleon’s rise to power, seen through the prism of his volatile relationship with Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. Tahar Rahim and Rupert Everett also star.
For Scarpa and Scott, the film represents a renewed collaboration after the two worked together All the money in the worldThe 2017 crime drama is based on the true story of the 1973 kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III and his mother’s efforts to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty to pay the ransom.
Writer and director have already reunited: Scarpa wrote the screenplay Gladiator 2Scott’s return to ancient Rome after gladiator, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2000 out of twelve nominations. Filming on the sequel resumed after the strike and is expected to be released in November 2024.
As for greetings NapoleonApple has teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment for a worldwide theatrical release on November 22nd. To date, the film has earned $207 million at the global box office.
