There’s so much potential to tell all kinds of wild and crazy stories in Marvel What if…? animated series. The show’s writers are pitching all kinds of ideas for the series and one of those pitches included a Marvel and Star Wars mix!
Story writer and editor Matthew Chaunceywho wrote episodes like What if… T’Challa became Star-Lord?, What if… zombies?and the season two finale What if… Strange Supreme intervened?he is the one who pitched an idea to the director and executive producer Bryan Andrews he says it’s “absolutely doable.” Kevin Feige but he rejected the idea. During an interview with Moovy TV, Andrews said:
“I believe Kevin [Feige] he really doesn’t want to cross certain waterways. But we made a proposal… We actually had a Star Wars/Marvel crossover.”
“So I think it’s absolutely doable. I just don’t know if [Feige] he wants to cross those streams, but it’s really fun. Once you understand why, you say, “Oh, that… oh, right!” It makes perfect sense. It won’t rain on anyone’s parade. But it was just a love letter to old-school Star Wars. And it was fantastic. And I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to do that. But we thought about these things.”
There’s no reason why they couldn’t do a crossover with Marvel and Star Wars In the What if…? series. It’s the perfect opportunity to make it happen because you can do anything with that show and it won’t really affect what happens in the movies and TV shows. They should do it!
Andrews goes on to talk about trying to work Easter eggs into the series, including cameos from Xenomorphs and Yautja hidden in the collector’s museum. But Disney cut them out. He said:
“I tried to put Easter eggs. All these different things that Disney actually has, but they’re really, really sharp. They’re like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ They noticed that bullshit. We snuck in a TIE Fighter… I don’t think anyone will ever be able to see it, but in the shot where Starlord T’Challa runs in and there are spaceships around… In one of the footage, when it goes by, maybe it’s blurry, but there’s a TIE Fighter in there. I don’t know if you’ll ever see it, but technically it’s been painted… it’s in there. So that’s what we were about being able to get in.”
Would you like to see a Marvel/Star Wars crossover? What if…??
