Head of the DC James Gunn is preparing to shoot his next film, Superman: Legacy, which is expected to go into production in March. He is preparing all the final details and, when a fan on Threads asked him if he could share any updates regarding the preparations for the film’s production, he replied:
“It’s going great. Sets under construction, costumes finished, actors studying roles, prosthetics and VFX models made, flights booked. Here we are.”
When asked how much of the film’s cast had been locked in, Gunn confirmed it was “more” than 90%, but still less than 100%.
We already know it Superman: Legacy will be the protagonist David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult was cast as Lex Luthor and Sara Sampaio plays Eve Teschmacher, with Skyler Gisondo taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen.
It’s also in the cast Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Engineer, Antonio Carrigan as Metamorpho, e Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.
A previous report claimed the plot synopsis of Superman: Legacy would be: “Superman, a young reporter from Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”
Gunn debunked the report on Threads in December, saying:
“I’m not sure where this logline came from. I didn’t write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I’ve said in the past). But I wouldn’t describe the plot that way, [and] I wouldn’t call Clark a novice journalist. He is a thirty-year-old reporter in all respects.
However, he confirmed the film’s production start date as March 2024. He wrote:
“I am grateful every day that our production team worked hard to keep things going during the strikes. Forces pushed us to stop many times — [and] if we had it we would never get to July 2025.”
Superman: Legacy will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
