The release of James Cameronthe 4K restoration of The abyss it was canceled in the UK due to a scene that the British censors wanted removed from the film.
According to Digital Bits, UK censors wanted to cut the scene where the mouse is immersed in breathing fluid. The rat was unharmed in real life and, even in the story, survives the respiratory fluid.
Disney apparently agreed to edit the film, but Cameron didn’t and his production company Lightstorm wouldn’t. If you’ve seen the movie, then you know there’s an important reason for this scene that sets the stage for later Ed HarrisThe character Bud is immersed in the fluid.
It’s so funny and strange to me that the censors want to cut the scene with the mouse, but it’s okay to keep the scene with a human being who has to go through the same experience.
.So if you want to buy The abyss 4K and you live in the UK, you’ll need to import it from the US, and like all 4K movies, it will be region-free.
In the film, “a nuclear submarine mysteriously sinks and the crew of a private oil rig, led by crew chief Bud Brigman, are recruited to join a team of Navy SEALs in a search and rescue operation,” the synopsis reads. “The group soon finds themselves on a spectacular life-and-death odyssey 25,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, where they find a mysterious force that could change the world or destroy it.”
The abyss stars Ed Harris, Maria Elisabetta Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, Todd Graff, John Bedford LloydAND Kimberley Scott.
The abyss it is still expected to be released on 4K UltraHD on March 12, 2024.
