Actress and stuntwoman Carrie Bernans was seriously injured in a suspected collision in New York City at 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Bernans, whose work also includes 2023s The color purple as well as Marvel’s Black Panther And Avengers Infinity War/EndgameHe was injured along with eight others. According to her publicist, she was hit by a driver who crashed into an outdoor dining area at Chirp, a Peruvian restaurant in midtown Manhattan. The driver then went into reverse and hit another car before officers arrived.

Bernans recently gave birth to a son, and luckily the newborn was not with her, but in a hotel with her family. Bernans is in stable condition and is currently undergoing surgery. Her mother posted details of the traumatic incident on Instagram and Bernans is in serious condition.

“She’s still in so much pain and can’t take calls at the moment… She’s in so much pain but she’s getting better. She was involved in a traumatic incident in New York in which a man in his early 40s tried to avoid a collision, rammed several cars and then crashed into a food stand that she and her friend were walking past. Finally she passed out and was hanging under the bleachers. She didn’t know what was happening,” Patricia Lee wrote on IG.

“She has some broken bones, fractures and broken teeth, but she thanks God that she is alive. Nine people were injured during his attempt to escape the hit-and-run, including three police officers. The police arrested him and arrested him soon after. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she clings to an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.

“This setback did not stop them from believing that God was still doing something remarkable. Despite the injuries she sustained in the hit-and-run collision in New York, she is full of hope and confidence as a beautiful new chapter unfolds.
