Actor Gary Oldmann he’s played some notable roles over the years, including many villains and strange characters across the board. With this in mind, he seems to fit perfectly into the world of superheroes, but when he took on a directorial role Christopher NolanIn the Dark Knight trilogy, he decided to take a different path, playing the good guy, Commissioner Jim Gordon.
It has always been rumored that Nolan wanted to cast Oldman in a villainous role in the film series, but neither the director nor the actor ever revealed what that role was. It turns out that Oldman wasn’t sure what that role was either, but he has a strong suspicion.
In a recent interview on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Oldman revealed:
“I had a feeling it was Scarecrow. That was about the time I thought I’d had enough [playing villains]. I think it was my manager who suggested to Chris, “How about Jim Gordon?” And, to his credit, Chris said, “Hm, that’s interesting.” We met and that’s how it was born. But I think it might be the Scarecrow.”
In the end everything worked out for the best. Oldman was great as Commissioner Gordon, and Oppenheimer star Cilian Murphy he was the perfect Scarecrow.
