This week’s retro trailer is for the director Ridley Scott1985 fantasy epic Legend. I remember being completely mesmerized when I watched this movie as a child. It was my real introduction to the fantasy genre and I loved it.
The film tells the story of a young hero named Jack, played by Tom Cruisewho embarks on a mission to save Princess Lili, played by My Sarafrom the clutches of the evil Lord of Darkness, played by Tim Curry. Set in a mythical world filled with enchanting creatures and magical beings, the story follows Jack as he battles goblins and other fantastical creatures in his search for love and light.
Legend is a visually stunning and imaginative film with breathtaking landscapes and elaborate sets, which created a rich and immersive fantasy world. Then there’s Curry’s iconic performance as Darkness, with his incredible makeup and prosthetics.
Despite its visually appealing elements and strong performances, Legend received mixed reviews upon its release. While some critics praised its artistic ambition, others criticized its convoluted plot and uneven pacing. But I liked it and many other people liked it too. I particularly liked the blend of dark fantasy and fairy tale elements.
