The director of MORTAL KOMBAT 2 shares a new teaser photo from the set

The director of Mortal Combat 2, Todd Garner, shared a new photo from the set of the film and teases Scorpion’s return. The character was played by Hiroyuki Sanada in the first film and of course, the sequel would bring this classic character to the franchise. You can check out the photo below which features the characters’ harpoon-like weapon called The Kunai.

I wish I was excited about this sequel, but the first movie that came out was a huge disappointment. It’s a shame that the studio doesn’t hire directors who actually know what to do with the franchise.

Simon McQuoidthe director of the last film, returned to direct the sequel, and the screenplay is his own initiative Jeremy Slaterthat he worked on previously Knight of the Moon and The Umbrella Academy. Previously speaking about the sequel, Slater said:

“I feel like the blood in Mortal Kombat is great and it’s part of what people come for, you always have to find that balance between fun blood and gross gore, right? Because there are times when you rip out someone’s heart or kill the best in the world.” the first movie is Kung Lao’s spinning hat that cuts her in half and it’s the perfect example of funny gore because it’s disgusting, but everyone laughs at the same time, right? You want to make sure that everyone is laughing at the sort of audacity of the gore and not sitting there sort of disgusted by close-ups of dripping guts and visceral and things like that.

“There’s a tongue-in-cheek aspect to Mortal Kombat in terms of the violence and the gore, there’s a little bit of winking at the audience and saying, ‘Yeah, we know it’s ridiculous, but it’s really fun and we’re all okay about the joke.” And when you get the balance right, I think that’s where you get moments like that incredibly bloody first battle that opens the first movie with the soundtrack with Hanzo blowing all the assassins to pieces or you get the gag of the hat or something. So we’re trying to emulate those gory moments from the first one that were really, really successful and got huge reactions from the audience, and how can we give the audience even more this time.”

It also includes the cast of the film Carlo Urbano as Johnny Cage in the film, Lewis Tan as Cole, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim like Sub-Zero, Josh Lawson like Kano, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.

Mortal Combat 2 has yet to set a release date.
