Ethan Embry (I can’t wait, Grace and Frankie) AND Margherita Levieva (The devil) have joined the cast of the upcoming indie drama The gymnast. The film marks the writer-director’s feature film debut Charlotte Glynn. Britney Wheelera gymnast from upstate New York, discovered after a nationwide casting search, will star in the film.
Set in Pittsburgh, 1993, The gymnast follows an aspiring Olympic gymnast and her single father who is dedicated to his daughter’s success. When the young athlete suffers a potentially career-ending injury, their relationship suffers as they struggle to discover who they are without gymnastics.
After wrapping up a seven-season run on Netflix Grace and FrankieEmbry was seen on The CW The Knights of Gothamand in the photo of Gerard Butler Last seen alive. In addition to series like Stellar girl AND Sneaky Petein recent years he has also appeared in acclaimed films such as First man AND Blindspottingfrom Damien Chazelle AND Carlos Lopez Estradarespectively.
Best known for roles in films such as Adventureland and The Invisible, Levieva has also been seen in major titles such as The Lincoln Lawyer, For Ellen, James White, Sleeping with Other People AND The diary of a teenager. Most recently she starred on HBO The devilwe will see her next in the Star Wars series The Acolyte and Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again.
Most recently, Glynn has written and directed The Immaculate Welcome, a short film that was named a Vimeo Staff Pick after its world premiere at Sundance, and won the Special Jury Prize at the New Orleans Film Festival. You also previously directed the feature film Rachel Is, which premiered at the True/False Film Festival and premiered on PBS’ America ReFramed.
