‘Scream 7’ Director Christopher Landon Exits ‘Dream Job That Turns In Nightmare’

Christopher Landon is gone Scream VIIthe director announced on social media.

“I think this is a good time to announce that I am officially gone Shout 7 weeks ago,” Landon shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “It will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart broke for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

He continued, “I have nothing more to add to the conversation except to hope that Wes’ legacy thrives and rises above the noise of a divided world.” What he and Kevin have created is something incredible and it has been an honor to bask in their splendor even for the briefest of moments.

Landon’s departure from the horror film franchise comes after Melissa Barrera was fired from the film due to her social media posts about the conflict between Israel and Hamas. After Barrera was not cast in the seventh episode of the horror series, Landon revealed that he was not the one responsible for her exit. The message was later deleted.

A day later it was announced that Jenna Ortega would not be reprising her role either Wednesday Survey schedule.

After backlash on social media over Barrera’s cut Scream VIISpyglass Media issued a statement giving the reasons for her dismissal.

“Spyglass’ position is clear: we do not tolerate anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that blatantly crosses the line into hate speech,” the statement reads.

Days later, Barrera broke her silence, condemning anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, adding: “I condemn hatred and prejudice of any kind against any group of people.”

Barrera explained that she “felt committed to having a platform that gives me the privilege of being heard, and that’s why I’ve tried to use it to raise awareness about issues that are close to my heart and around my voice to use to help people in need.”

Deadline has reached out to Spyglass for comment on Landon’s departure.
