Film Independent has identified the filmmakers and projects for the 2022 Documentary Lab. Lab is an intense program that provides creative feedback to filmmakers. He currently produces feature documentaries and continues his internship career by meeting professionals who can advise on the craft and business of documentary filmmaking. Chris Schellen and Jeff Malmberg (marvenkol) and Anaianos Prado (maid in america) will be your main creative consultants this year, with lab consultants and additional guests Sarah Dosa and Shane Boris (the fire of love), Oscar nominee Jessica Kingdon (IncreaseMatthew Radek (Founder, Distinctive Design), Emmy Producer Ali Jones, Sundance Institute Carrie Lozano, Emmy Nominated Writer/Editor Catherine Robson (circus book) and editor-in-chief Sarah Nuens (on the record). The UCLA Doc Law Clinic serves as an industry partner for the lab, which is also supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
“The films chosen for this year’s lab are a brutal and irreverent story,” said Lisa Hasko, director of art development. “From the personal to the political and everywhere in between, filmmakers push the boundaries of the audience in the most creative and immersive ways.”
