I have a trailer here for you to watch for a disturbing short film currently making the rounds at the festival. It is entitled La Nueva (The Newcomer)and has just concluded a successful year of distribution, visiting most of the best fantasy genre festivals in the world and becoming, thanks to its tour, the horror short film of the year.
Since its premiere at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (considered by the specialized press to be the best fantasy genre festival in the world), it has toured more than 250 international festivals in more than 30 countries. It has won more than 100 awards in all its technical sections, including the prestigious Stan Winston Golden Skull, the highest award for a short horror film at the “Screamfest” in Los Angeles (the oldest horror festival in the United States).
The short film is directed by Ivan Villamel (who had already achieved great worldwide resonance with his previous short film Mr. Dentonn), and written together with Raul Cerezo (author of the feature films The passenger AND Seniors). It’s a horror story set in a religious high school, where a conflicted group of students will have to deal with a new teacher who is not what she seems.
Lots of tension and twists that keep the audience on their toes, with references to 70s horror films, in a slasher that’s different from the usual. It has been described as a mix between The breakfast club + Carrie + evil Dead.
This short film, starring Amaia Sagasti in the main role of a teacher, and supported by a large group of brilliant young actors, is produced by the Spanish company Eye Slice Pictures.
