The real-world inspirations behind JRR Tolkien’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS explored on video

I have an interesting video here for you to watch from Weird History that takes a look at the historical inspiration behind the classic JRR Tolkien classic The Lord of the Rings novels. If you are a die-hard Tolkien fan, you probably know a lot of the information presented in this video, but if you are just a fan of the released films, there are most likely some interesting things presented in the video that you will be learning about for the first time.

The video explores how Norse and Roman mythology influenced much of Tolkien’s writings along with the rise of fascism in Europe, Tolkien’s fascination with artefacts, his experience fighting in battle during World War I and his desire for a British mythological story.

JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit adventure that preceded it are true mythologies and stories in their own right… But the list of historical references in The Lord of the Rings is long and the impact of influences on his writings, including Norse mythology and Tolkien’s experiences during the First World War, is undeniable.

Enjoy the video below!
