Matthew Lillard talks about his SCREAM character saying ‘I don’t really care about Stu Macher’

One of Matthew Lillard’s most iconic film role is that of Stu Macher Wes Cravenis the original 1996 film He shouted. He was great in that role, and it was the film role that helped launch his career. I’m a huge Lillard fan and have always thought he should have gotten bigger movie jobs throughout his career.

During a recent interview with Collider, Lillard spoke about his He shouted character and shared that he doesn’t really care about Stu. He explained:

“I don’t really care about Stu Macher. It’s a part I played. It’s like if you’re a plumber, do you care about the house you renovated down the street and around the corner? No, it’s your job. And I love that job, it was nice to have it on my resume, but the reality is, it’s a part I did over 20 years ago.

“So what’s important to me is that what it means to other people is deeply relevant when you see them all the time, and that’s powerful. It’s not something I understood before.”

It’s understandable that he would feel this way about this character or any character he’s played in his career. I imagine many actors feel the same way about the movie characters they’ve played throughout their careers.

Lillard is fresh off his horror project Five Nights at Freddy’s and is also part of a Dungeons & Dragons series entitled Faster, Purple Worm! Killing! Killing!.

Many He shouted fans would love to see Lillard reprise his role as Stu in the Scream franchise, but who knows if that will ever happen.
