The long awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s the film proved to be a major success for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, and they plan to build the franchise with more sequels.
According to a new report, the first of these sequels is coming next year! The studio is trying to start filming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in the spring and are looking to release it on Halloween 2024.
It’s funny because it took over ten years to make and release the first movie! Now they think they will be able to make a good sequel in less than a year. I hope they can make it! It seems like a rush job and that worries me. They must already have a written script.
The game franchise consists of 13 video games and over 30 novels, so it makes sense that Blumhouse would want to expand it into a film franchise.
The director of the film, Emma Tammi, she was previously asked about the future of the franchise and whether she would be willing to visit some of the other Five Nights at Freddy’s locations, such as the “Circus Baby’s Pizza World” or the “Mega Pizzaplex,” home to the Glamrock models of the animatronics . She explained that she’s excited to explore the universe further, saying:
“I’m not closing the door on this at all. I would be so excited to make more movies in this world… so fingers crossed.”
Five Nights at Freddy’s the film includes many references and Easter eggs to look out for that lay the groundwork for future films. Plus, there’s the fact that one of the film’s stars, Matthew Lillardhe has already anticipated it Five Nights at Freddy’s will have at least three films. Blum has previously spoken about the future of the franchise, saying:
“Well, I think the right video games are great source material for movies. I mean, you’ve seen it with too [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. It’s a different genre, but it was an incredibly successful film. I really hope that’s the case [with Five Nights at Freddy’s]. James [Wan] he’s actually a big gamer and we have a gaming division of our company that we’re working on. I’m looking forward to finding more popular games that we can turn into horror movies.”
The first film was released on October 27 this year and grossed more than $300 million at the box office on a budget of $25 million. The film was released in theaters and on Peacock at the same time.
The film follows “a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As he spends his first night on the job, he realizes that it won’t be so easy to complete the night shift at Freddy’s. There are ghost children posing as giant animatronics that they want to terrorize.
