Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller The kitchendirected by the actor Daniele Kaluuyaknown for starring in Go out, Black Panther, Judas and the Black Messiah, Noand more recently Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Kaluuya co-directed the picture together Kibwe Tavaresin his feature film debut, and the screenplay was co-written by Kaluuya and Joe Murtaghwho previously wrote the film American animals and created the series The woman in the wall.
The film is the protagonist Kane Robinson like Izi e Jedaia Bannerman in his acting debut as Benji. They are joined by their co-stars I hope Ikpoku Jr., Ian Wright, BackRoad Gee, Crystal, Teija KabsAND Demmy Ladipo.
The film’s synopsis reads:
In a dystopian London, the gap between rich and poor has been pushed to its limits. All forms of social housing have been eradicated and only The Kitchen remains. A community that refuses to leave the place it calls home. It is here that we meet a lonely Izi, who lives here out of necessity and desperately tries to find a way out, and a 12-year-old Benji, who has lost his mother and is looking for a family. We follow our unlikely couple as they struggle to create a relationship in a system that is stacked against them.
This looks like a great movie and hopefully the start of a great directorial career for Kaluuya and Tavares. Netflix will release The kitchen on January 19, 2024. Watch the trailer below:
