GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE Director Gil Kenan Talks the ‘Post-Gozerian Era’ the Film Takes Place in

Director Gil Kenan is leading us to the next chapter of Ghostbusters lore in the upcoming film, Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire. What we know so far is that in the story, New York City finds itself frozen due to an ancient artifact that unleashes an evil force. Plus, the original Ghostbusters return! Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, AND Ernie Hudson we are all back for the new adventure! The synopsis reads:

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all began, the iconic New York firehouse, to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who have developed a top-secret research laboratory to bring ghost eradication to a higher level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, the Old and Old Ghostbusters must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

But Kenan gave us a little more information about the upcoming film, stating in a recent interview with Empire:

“As the history of the Spengler family drove the narrative of Afterlife, bringing Gozer back to center stage was a natural way to close the book on the past. But now we’re in the post-Gozerian era of the Ghostbusters saga, so that means we’re able to branch out and create a whole new mythology. And that’s exciting as a storyteller, because there are completely new and terrifying stakes with new visual references to draw on.
