Fox is producing a psychological crime drama series titled Murder in a small townand Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) AND Rossif Sutherland (The Handmaid’s Tale) are set to Star.
The series is based on Karl Alberg’s book series L. R. Wrightand the series was developed by the head writer Ian Weir (Edgemont) and director Milan Cheylov (The cleaning lady).
Murder in a small town follows “Karl Alberg (Sutherland), who moves to a quiet coastal town to soothe a psyche battered by big-city police work. But this sweet paradise has more than its share of secrets, and Karl will have to call upon all the skills that have made him a world-class detective to solve the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on its shores. .”
Kreuk plays Cassandra, a local librarian who “becomes Alberg’s muse, complement and romantic interest.” It’s great to see Kreuk getting a lead role in a series again. It seems like it’s been a while since I’ve seen her in anything.
Michael Thorn, president of Scripted Programming at Fox Entertainment, said in a statement: “Murder In a Small Town illustrates our ongoing strategy to identify and commission impactful global content intelligently and effectively with proven creative partners.” He added: “It’s a wonderful series, with big aspirations, that will feel very specific to our audience, with the promise of a signature Fox character in Karl Alberg. Ian did a masterful job bringing LR Wright’s seminal detective Karl Alberg to life, finding the perfect alter ego for him, Rossif Sutherland, to play on screen opposite Kristin Kreuk.
Producer Jeff Wachtel added: “It’s a joy to make this wonderful show with my old friends at Fox. Ian, Milan, Rossif and Kristin form the core of a world-class creative team that will bring this unique crime show to life.”
