‘Barbie’ Director Greta Gerwig on Ryan Gosling’s Fight Against Mink Coat in the Musical ‘I’m Just Ken’

Greta Gerwig reveals it Barbie Star Ryan Gosling had a quirky idea for his musical number I’m Just Ken which would involve him fighting with his mink coat.

While he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbertthe director of Barbie describes the scene Gosling had in mind.

“One of the ideas Ryan had was that he would do a dance duet with his mink and the mink would fight him, then love him and then fight him again, finally beat him and he would be reborn. of the mink,” Gerwig told the CBS late night show host.

Gerwig said there was “sample material of it somewhere” and that it was “in the vault.”

“Even though it didn’t end up in the film, it was that openness and everyone’s brilliant, wild ideas that made it possible in this form,” she added. “So we had a fun week figuring out what it would be like if he did his Mink Ballet.”

During the interview, Gerwig also said that the idea for the fake fur coat came about during a brainstorming session between her and Gosling, sending each other pictures of Sylvester Stallone. The screenwriter also reiterated that when she was writing the script, she pitched Gosling in the role without knowing if the actor wanted to participate in the film.
