Jason Momoas Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters next weekend, but the actor seems uncertain about the future of the DC character and franchise.
In an ET Online interview published tonight, the latest Saturday Night Live The presenter expressed his doubts about continuing to play the hidden superhero he first inhabited in 2017 Justice League and then the next year in the $1.15 billion standalone film. “The truth is, I mean, if the audience likes it, then there’s a possibility,” he told ET. “But right now I’m thinking, ‘It doesn’t look so good’.”
While noting that DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran “want to start their own thing,” he said in the interview that he “doesn’t necessarily want this to be the end…” [but] I don’t think it’s really a choice.”
And this despite Warner Bros. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Tracking is expected to gross around $50 million to $60 million for the four-day Christmas program in North America. It comes almost five years later Aquarius debuted on its way to becoming the highest-grossing DC film of all time.
Momoa added that she might play the metahuman aka Arthur Curry in future films: “If there’s a place for me in their world, I’d love to be a part of it. This is my house. Warner and DC are definitely my home. That’s all I’ll say.
How does it feel to play Aquaman Momoa? “If I put it as simply as possible [terms]it makes my heart smile.”
